User Initially Required to Back Up files, but Files and Locations are Unknown
May 03, 2013 04:59PM
[Issue Tracker] When PatchOMoney is launched, it first displays a screen that requires the user to acknowledge that they have backed up their installation files, however, these files are typically stored in a hidden system folder, and many users cannot find or access the files, so cannot answer yes truthfully, and require additional support, reassurance, and instructions to run the patch. Not running the patch prevents them from using Money.

Additional Information

PatchOMoney first checks to see if each affected file has been backed up, and creates a backup if one does not exist. The check and subsequent backup are reliable. In addition, the utility supports reverting patches. Accordingly, the warning and request to back up the installation is unnecessary, and should be replaced by a general introduction and explanation.

Alternatively, the utility should offer to make the backup itself.

Alternatively, the utility could operate in two phases: the first displays the location(s) of the file(s) to back up, perhaps offers to do it, and the second phase then requires the user to answer 'yes' to the backup question.

Unicode PatchOMoney Log File Contains a Few Ascii Entries
May 06, 2013 04:51PM
The following entries are written to the log file in ASCII, but the log file is a Unicode file starting with the appropriate 0xFFFE byte order mark:

Error 2 opening Import Files queue.
Error 5 locating Money installation.

The ASCII entries display as a string of gibberish Chinese characters. The log files can be read by Support.
